WildRivers 101 Film Festival

2008 Schedule of Events

WildRivers 101 Film Festival – 13 days, indoor and outdoor venues; countywide film and digital media fest. Links will take you to descriptions and trailers for select films.

Tickets for each film are $10 general admission, or $5 for students, seniors, and children, unless otherwise stated in the schedule. An All-Access Pass to the festival is $100. Call 707-444-6633 for more information. We will also accept a sliding scale admission fee for each film that has not sold out.

Directors and Producer will be in attendance for Q & A.

2 hours of screenings from Young Media Makers Showcase, and Humboldt Workforce Digital Pathways. The best in short films and videos, with filmmakers present.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

9 am - 4 pm - Access Humboldt E.H.S. Media Center - CANOPY: A DIGITAL BRIDGE part I
On J and Del Norte Street, behind main Eureka High School building. New media, film as art, interactive media, youth programs, video games, pitch sessions with producers from Paramount and Big Screen Entertainment. Lunch included. $20 adult, $10 students and senior citizens.

6 pm - 9 pm - Arts Alive! Eureka - WINE & CINEMA ART EXTRAVAGANZA
Screenings on the sides of buildings in Old Town, and themed wine tasting mini-theatres sponsored by the Humboldt Wine Association. Arts Alive! is free, wine tasting tour is $20 per ticket. Must be over 21 to drink or buy wine.

5 pm - Eureka Theatre - ALWAYS, BUT NOT FOREVER
Based on a play by Henry Jaglom. With director Ron Vignone and actress Tanna Frederick.

7 pm - Eureka Theatre - HOLLYWOOD DREAMS
Encore showing with actress Tanna Fredericks, this year's CHRYSALIS AWARD recipient, present for Q & A.

9 pm - Eureka Theatre - THE BLUETOOTH VIRGIN
Director Rusell Brown and actress Karen Black will be in attendance. We are proud to award Karen Black with this year's INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARD. A viewing of a montage of her diverse work will remind us all of what an incredible artist she is and what an indelible role she holds in the history of independent cinema.

11 pm - Eureka Theatre - CHARADES
Directed by Stephen Eckleberry, written by and starring Karen Black. Preceded by HELP, a short film by Karen Black, and a short montage of Karen's work over the years.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7

9 am - 4 pm - Redwood Acres - MOVIE MEMORABILIA SALE
Thousands of movie posters, 35 mm trailers, 3-D glasses, cardboard floor displays, banners and more! With wine, brew, and show tunes. Stop by and go treasure hunting! All proceeds will go to the non-profits the WildRivers101 Film Festival, the Humboldt Film and Digital Media Commission and the Humboldt Film Festival (the oldest continuous student-run film festival in the world, started by HSU alum David Phillips and friends in 1967, and still going strong).

9 am - 3 pm - Aquatic Center, Eureka - CANOPY: A DIGITAL BRIDGE, part II
At the Aquatic Center, near 1st J street by the Harbor in Eureka. Meet with Joaquin Alvarado, 2008's Global Vision Award winner and founding Director of SF State's Institute for Next Generation Internet (INGI). This day is about using digital media for education, networking and outreach. Includes lunch.

3 pm - Aquatic Center, Eureka - SOURCE TO THE SEA
With filmmaker Andy Norris in attendance. Norris documented the 1,200 plus mile swim of Christopher Swain from the source of the river to the Pacific Ocean to raise awareness of the toxic destruction of this great river.

3 pm - Garberville Theatre - Disney classic CINDERELLA
Dress up as your favorite Disney Character – prize for best costume!

4 pm - Arkley Center, Eureka - family classic BLACK STALLION
6 pm - Arkley Center, Eureka - classic 1947 film noir OUT OF THE PAST
